Spinning Turning Watching Burning

When dreaming, I'm guided through another world, time and time again. At sunrise I fight to stay asleep, because I dont want to leave the comfort of this place, because there's a hunger, a longing to escape, from the life I live when I'm awake.

Spinning Turning Watching Burning
Here is a song I've been singing alot lately. Granted its been in the car so no one could get hurt. That is unless you happened to be in the car as well. Then we are wiping the blood from your ears.

Dance Damn It!

All our lives we search for someone who makes us complete. We choose partners and change partners. We dance the song of heartbreak and hope all the while, wondering if somewhere, somehow there is someone searching for us.

I absolutely refuse to watch that dancing show, but I will admit that I love to dance. It must be because of my love of music.

Some dancing is just too mushy, even for me. This video is a prime example.

Thanks Mermaid. I blame you for this. Hehehe...

I'll Be Around

As for me, to love you alone, to make you happy, to do nothing which would contradict your wishes, this is my destiny and the meaning of my life

The Word According To Gaiman

When you remember me, do not recall the king or the hero. Remember me as a man; frail and fragile.
-- Beowulf

The Word According to Gaiman
I finally got to watch Beowulf. It was definately worth it, especially in full 3d.

I didnt realize that my favorite author, Neil Gaiman, helped produce and write this version of the epic poem. He has always been able to write something that intrigued me as well as touched my senses. American Gods is one of my favorite books for so many reasons.

Here is one of my favorite quotes from Gaiman:

Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn't it?

It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up.

You build up all these defenses, you build up a whole suit of armor, so that nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life.

You give them a piece of you. They didn't ask for it. They did something dumb one day, like kiss you or smile at you, and then your life isn't your own anymore.

Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, so simple a phrase like "maybe we should be just friends" turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart.

It hurts. Not just in the imagination. Not just in the mind. It's a soul-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain.

I hate love.

Over The Hills and Far Away

I treasure my remark to a grandson who asked, "Grandpa, were you a hero in the war?" "No", I answered, "But I served in a company of heroes".
-- Richard Winters, 101st Airborne Division

Over The Hills and Far Away
I have never been in full combat nor had to fight for my freedom. Veterans from past, present and future have done that.

For that, this day, we give thanks.

I think I've posted this in the past, but it seems appropriate.

Although this is a traditional British song, its been used recently in the tv series Sharpe's Rifles. I've always liked the way it described a soldier's life. And if thought carefully, it still applies today as it did back then.

Over The Hills And Far Away by John Tams
There's forty shillings on the drum
For those who volunteer to come,
To 'list and fight the foe today
Over the Hills and far away

O'er the hills and o'er the main
Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain
King George commands and we obey
O'er the hills and far away

When duty calls me I must go
To stand and face another foe
But part of me will always stray
Over the hills and far away

Through smoke and fire and shot and shell,
And to the very walls of hell,
But we shall stand and we shall stay
Over the hills and far away

If I should fall to rise no more
As many comrades did before
Then ask the fifes and drums to play
Over the hills and far away

Then fall in lads behind the drum
With colours blazing like the sun
Along the road to come what may
Over the hills and far away

Though kings and tyrants come and go
A soldier's life is all I know
I'll live to fight another day
Over the hills and far away.

Sunset

If the people we love are stolen from us, the way to have them live on is to never stop loving them. Buildings burn, people die, but real love is forever.
-- Sarah from The Crow

::: Tower View :::
Sunset
A friend of mine recently had her mother pass away. It reminded me of when Adnil lost her grandmother, who was the one who raised her. I handled that moment badly as well.

Just as it was back then, there were no words that I could say that would make things any easier. The best I could do was to give a prayer and condolensces. If I remember correctly, I even screwed that up on both occasions.

The words are best left to those more eloquent than I could ever be.

Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night by Dylan Thomas
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

In the end, life goes on and so must we. Light a candle for those remembered.

Its Halloween today. Candy. Ghosts. Goblins. The whole shebang.

Since I am such a lazy bastard, I've grabbed a few trailers from a couple of films. Two really scary films and two feel good types.

Here is the scary stuff:

Here are the feel good movies:

Make sure to bring the popcorn.
